Model 1 draws its water straight from the mains, so you never refill it again. If the drain is connected too, waste water runs straight off. If not, it collects in the drip tray as before.
You decide how you use Model 1. Even plumbed in, the built-in water tank stays exactly where it is.
Keep using it from the tank as before, or connect it to a supply and a drain. The tank does not go away.
The plumbed-in configuration includes the plumbing kit on top of everything that normally ships with Model 1.
How Model 1 gets connected is up to you. Both ways work with the same kit.
Water, waste water and power run through a cut-out into the cabinet below. From the front you see none of it.
The supply line needs only a small cut-out. The drain needs a larger one, centred under the machine.
Supply line and power cable run visibly out the back. No hole in the worktop.
Without a drain connection the water stays in the drip tray and you empty it as before.
The plumbing kit is built for the connections found in a typical kitchen. Where an existing connection can be used, installing it is much like installing a household appliance.
Kitchens differ. Depending on the situation you may need an extra adapter or an extension. If the mains plumbing itself has to be changed, that is a job for a qualified plumber.
No. It is the same machine as before, and you can now order it plumbed as well. Not a new generation, not a second machine.
No. It makes the same coffee it made on day one and gets the same software updates as every other Model 1. The plumbing option is a connection, not new internals.
Because we develop Model 1 further instead of replacing it. Model 1 is our platform: whatever we learn to do better, we build in.
It includes the plumbing kit and the parts inside the machine that make the connection possible. That is what the price covers. Black and white cost the same.

The plumbing option can be retrofitted. Whether the direct drain connection also works on existing machines is something we are still checking. Price and date are not fixed yet. Write to us and we will get back to you as soon as we know more.
